Cassidy Fritts (she/her) is a painter, illustrator, and muralist currently based in Austin, TX. Art revealed itself as a therapeutic visual language during her teenage years when she discovered its healing power through art therapy; this translated into her personal art practice and further informed her approach to public art. Fritts uses surrealism and realism, often a combination of the subject matter of portraits, text, and natural and mystical elements, to explore themes of mental health, internal dialogue, interpersonal connections, and generational relationships.
Her 10 years of public art experience has been shaped by volunteering and working with community-based mural programs and artists. Fritts has designed and painted public and private interior and exterior murals in central Texas and has exhibited work in both solo and group exhibits across Texas. In addition to creating her own artwork, Fritts has dedicated her career to Creative Youth Development, working in Texas arts nonprofits where her roles as instructor and coordinator have allowed her to nurture and inspire civically conscious young artists.
Throughout her artistic journey and professional development, Fritts has garnered skills to support artists through large-scale project assistance and project management. As the current Public Art Program Manager at Creative Action, an Austin nonprofit, Fritts utilizes her public art experience to lead and mentor Chroma Collective, a collective of young adult artists, in year-round professional and community-engaged public art. Outside of this position, Fritts supports independent artists in the creation and management of their large-scale projects around the US including murals in Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, and New York. Fritts graduated with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts with a concentration in Painting from the University of the Incarnate Word in 2017.
