Girls, Inc. “Strong, Smart, & Bold Women of San Antonio, Vol. I” Book Illustrations 2021

In collaboration with a Girls, Inc. youth, Avery Napier, I had the incredible opportunity to provide support in bringing her vision to life - a captivating book filled with interviews of influential San Antonio Women. To add an extra touch of creativity, I meticulously crafted original ink illustrations accompanied by delicate watercolor accents for each woman Avery interviewed. Upon completion of the book, we decided to gift each of the women their respective original artworks as a gesture of appreciation and admiration.

The portraits themselves were intentionally designed to be simplistic yet impactful, with a primary focus on highlighting the unique features of each remarkable woman and seamlessly integrating with their interviews. To further add a touch of symbolism, a botanical element in the form of flowers or plants emerged from or gently surrounded the faces of these inspiring individuals. The selection of these natural elements was thoughtfully chosen, aligning with the traits and characteristics these women so eloquently expressed during their interviews.

The book's front and back covers showcase large-scale, original paintings crafted on panels. These carefully created artworks truly capture the essence of the project and serve as a captivating introduction and conclusion to the inspiring stories within. Once the book was published, the original artworks found a new home in the Girls, Inc. facility, where they continue to inspire and empower young girls who walk through its doors.

This collaborative endeavor was a remarkable journey, filled with creativity, empowerment, and the celebration of remarkable women from the city of San Antonio. Through Avery's determination and my artistic contribution, we were able to produce a book that not only chronicles the stories of influential women but also embodies the power of creativity and the impact it can have on both individuals and communities.
